sassi
Sassi Pouf

Sassi are stones that are not stones. Piero Gilardi designed the set in 1968, and it was first shown that year on the stairs of the Milan Triennale. The largest piece, Sedilsasso, is a pouf; the smaller stones are ornamental and lie around it on the floor, bringing a piece of landscape into the room.

All the elements are soft polyurethane, finished and decorated by hand with Guflac® to look like weathered rock. They are light, soft and convincingly realistic, a clear example of the true-fake idea that runs through Gufram's catalogue. Sassi are part of the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art in New York.

The set is limited to 2,000 pieces. The pouf measures 70 × 56 cm and 48 cm high. Because each stone is painted by hand, colour and surface differ slightly from set to set.
