Alpha Centauri Vase

Alpha Centauri is a vase in Murano glass, designed by Marco Zanini in 1982. A clear glass sphere sits on a turquoise foot, with a red ring above it and a stack of green and blue discs forming the mouth. The name is that of the star system closest to our own. The vase is 37 cm high.

It is made by hand with traditional Murano techniques, so form and colour differ slightly from piece to piece. Memphis counts such differences as part of its artisanal production. Memphis describes each of its pieces as the result of long handwork, in which the craftsmen handle every surface many times as it is made.
