Oberoj is an armchair designed by George J. Sowden in 1981. It is upholstered in a printed cotton fabric designed by Nathalie Du Pasquier, so the pattern comes from a second Memphis designer. The chair measures 95 cm in width and depth and 90 cm in height.
The legs are lacquered wood. This is the standard edition. Upholstery and lacquer are finished by hand in Italy, and small differences in colour and surface between pieces are part of the process.
Memphis broke with rationalism: its pieces work with bright colour, geometric shapes and recognisable patterns, and refer to high and popular culture alike.
