Big Sur is a two-seater sofa designed by Peter Shire in 1986. Shire is one of the designers who contributed to Memphis over the years, and the sofa belongs to the later part of the original collections. It measures 210 cm in width, 72 cm in depth and 96 cm in height.
The structure is lacquered wood, upholstered in fabric. The sofa sets a hard, lacquered wooden structure against a soft textile surface. Lacquer and upholstery are finished by hand in Italy, and small differences in colour and surface between pieces are part of the process.
Memphis describes each piece as the result of long handwork that starts again with every project.
