Madras is a table designed by Nathalie Du Pasquier in 1986, among the later pieces of the original Memphis collections. It measures 160 cm in length, 85 cm in depth and 75 cm in height, a size for a small dining table or a worktable.
The top and body are wood covered with decorative laminate, and the legs are lacquered. Laminate and lacquer are finished by hand in Italy, and small differences in colour and surface between pieces are part of the process.
Memphis broke with rationalism: its pieces work with bright colour, geometric shapes and recognisable patterns, and refer to high and popular culture alike.
