Cream is a small coffee table designed by Ettore Sottsass in 1984. Sottsass brought the Memphis designers together in Milan in 1980 and 1981.
A wooden body covered in decorative laminate forms a compact square of 50 × 50 cm, 40 cm high, which sits comfortably beside or in front of a sofa. The laminate carries the pattern and colour, as on much Memphis furniture. Colour and surface can differ slightly from piece to piece, because the work is done by hand in Italian workshops.
For Memphis, function became one quality among several: every piece was meant to carry symbolic, poetic or emotional meaning as well.
