First is a chair designed by Michele De Lucchi in 1983, two years after the first Memphis collection. A round blue disc forms the back, held in a thin metal ring that ends in two black spheres. The seat is a round black disc on slim metal legs. The chair is built from simple geometric parts, which makes it easy to read at a glance.
The frame is painted metal, and the back and seat are lacquered wood. Memphis builds its pieces in Italian workshops and counts small differences in lacquer and finish between chairs as part of this artisanal production.

| Steel | Wipe with a soft, damp cloth and dry immediately. Powder-coated surfaces tolerate a mild detergent; avoid abrasive cleaners. Raw steel can develop a patina and is best kept dry. |
