Mimosa is a coffee table designed by Ettore Sottsass in 1984. It is a cube of 42 cm on each side, small enough to stand beside an armchair.
A wooden body covered with decorative laminate carries a top of tempered glass, so the body stays visible beneath the glass. Memphis relies on Italian craftsmen for this work, and small differences in colour and surface from one piece to the next are part of the process rather than faults.
Memphis broke with rationalism: its pieces work with bright colour, geometric shapes and recognisable patterns, and refer to high and popular culture alike.
