Orinoco is a ceramic vase designed by Masanori Umeda in 1983. Umeda is one of the designers who took part in Memphis, the group that formed in Milan around Ettore Sottsass in 1981 and wanted furniture and objects to carry symbolic and poetic meaning, not only function.
The vase is turned and then painted by hand. It stands 29 cm high on a footprint of 18 × 18 cm. Memphis has relied on Italian craftsmen since 1981, so small differences in colour and surface from one piece to the next are part of the process.
