Polar is a low table designed by Michele De Lucchi in 1984. It is a narrow rectangle of 70 × 35 cm and 40 cm high. De Lucchi belonged to the circle around Ettore Sottsass that founded Memphis.
The table is made of lacquered wood covered with decorative laminate, so a painted surface and a printed one meet on the same object. The finish is applied by hand, and small differences in colour and surface between pieces are part of the process.
Memphis describes each piece as the result of long handwork that starts again with every project.
