Sol is a vase in Murano glass, designed by Ettore Sottsass in 1982. The shallow white and dark blue vessel is raised on a clear glass stem and a red base, with coloured glass arms and blue and red points around the rim. Sol is the Latin word for the sun. The vase is 29 cm across and 24 cm high.
It is made by hand with traditional Murano techniques, so form and colour differ slightly from piece to piece. Memphis counts such differences as part of its artisanal production. Memphis describes each of its pieces as the result of long handwork, in which the craftsmen handle every surface many times as it is made.
