Cross is a bookcase by Carlo Contin for Meritalia. Its distinctive feature is the structure: two solid wooden elements cross diagonally on the front and on the back, and they are shown rather than hidden behind the function of the shelf. Meritalia reads the cross as a figure that supports, and links it to Vitruvian Man and to Atlas carrying the weight of knowledge. The bookcase is 100 cm wide, 42 cm deep and 210 cm high.
Between the two crosses sit very light shelves of ash wood. Cross can stand alone, or several units can be combined, and its geometry lets them form different arrangements in a room. It comes in black or white.
