Senzafine Armchair

Senzafine, Italian for endless, is a series of seats by Gaetano Pesce for Meritalia. Each piece starts as a continuous polyurethane cord that a craftsman tangles onto itself by hand, forming soft loops and organic shapes. Geometric moulds then hold the tangle together as one solid block. Meritalia describes the result as never the same twice and suitable for indoor and outdoor use. The series is a development of a project started in 1996.

The seat measures 100 × 85 cm and is 80 cm high. It is sold either on its own or as an armchair, which here means the seat together with a matching pouf of 62 × 62 × 43 cm. The material is extruded polyurethane, in five saturated colours: blue, black, red, yellow and green. Because the loops are laid by hand, small differences between pieces are part of the process.
