Shadow Armchair

Shadow is an armchair by Gaetano Pesce for Meritalia. The name refers to the shadow a body casts, and the chair is built like an imprint: a single volume that settles differently under each person who sits in it. It is made without a mould. Polyurethane foam is injected into the upholstery cover, where it expands and sets in a way that cannot be predicted, and the final shape comes only when the chair meets a body.

The cover is Brenda, a coated fabric (category B) of polyurethane, cotton and polyester. The process is largely manual, so every Shadow differs slightly from the next. The chair comes in the standard size, 116 × 100 × 128 cm, and as Shadow Mini at 60 × 55 × 65 cm, which Pesce designed for children. The standard size is offered in five colours and the Mini in four.
